SUNY Canton Salutes its Newest Senior Lecturers

Canton, NY (02/20/2024) — A slew of faculty members recently received a promotion to the position of senior lecturer within their respective schools at SUNY Canton.

Among the most recent promotions were:

• Jennie H. Flanagan, RN, MHA, teaches in the college's Health Care Management program within the School of Business and Liberal Arts. She has three degrees from SUNY Canton, including her Nursing degree. She earned her master's degree in Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University. Flanagan is intensely focused on quality, patient safety, and managed care and is the program's internship and minor coordinator. She continues working part-time in healthcare at St. Lawrence - Rochester Regional Health System as a clinical research nurse coordinator to keep current in healthcare policy, patient care and patient advocacy to maintain her skills and facilitate teaching the new faces of healthcare. Flanagan is an active member of the SUNY Canton Alumni Association who takes great pride in having been a three-time graduate of the college and the ability to share her knowledge with students.
• Cullen Haskins teaches in the Mechatronics Engineering Technology program within the Canino School of Engineering Technology and has worked at SUNY Canton for more than a decade. He earned his master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University. Haskins has varying levels of experience across many disciplines, including high-performance building design and construction, welding, machining, fabrication, and mechanical design. His favorite part of his job is interacting with students inside and outside the classroom, especially when helping them apply what they've learned in classes to engineering design. Haskins is most proud of the growth and personal, academic or career success of his students. He is also excited to work alongside his peers to integrate engineering design as a core focus in academic programs.
• Christina L. Martin teaches in the Early Childhood program in the School of Business and Liberal Arts. She earned a master's degree in teaching from SUNY Potsdam and previously taught at the elementary level. She began her career at SUNY Canton in 2010, teaching evening classes and presenting at the annual Early Childhood Conference. Martin's commitment to the Early Childhood Program has been instrumental in its growth from an Associate of Science Degree to a Bachelor of Business Administration in Early Childhood Care and Management. In addition to her teaching, she serves as the Early Childhood Minor Coordinator and Early Childhood Field Experience Coordinator. Martin resides in Canton with her husband Pat and children Sam, Emalyn, and Megan.
• Kevin M. McAdoo teaches math in the Canino School of Engineering Technology. He earned a master's degree in mathematics from SUNY Albany. He is most proud of running the Solar Ready Vets training program at Fort Drum, which gained recognition as the top training program in the country. He worked with students from the Solar Ready Vets program and the Save the Fountain project in Norwood, where the class installed solar panels to power pumps for the restored fountain. He enjoys creating engaging class activities, like math "Jeopardy!" and teamwork assignments.
• Seth Nixon teaches in the Graphic and Multimedia Design program in the Canino School of Engineering Technology. He is originally from Macomb and graduated from Gouverneur High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Denison University and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Nixon previously worked in journalism and advertising. After working with multiple Fortune 100 and 500 companies on various advertising campaigns, Nixon came to SUNY Canton in 2013 and currently helps develop advertising, design and video courses as well as senior capstone projects. When he is not teaching or working in his roles on the Affirmative Action Committee, he serves as the advisor for the Game and Anime Clubs or prepares presentations for pop culture conferences. Nixon enjoys fishing, boating, and skiing in the North Country.
• Stephanie Petkovsek teaches history in the School of Business and Liberal Arts. Petkovsek is originally from Middleville and currently resides in Canton. She earned her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University and her master's degree in history from SUNY Buffalo. Her favorite SUNY Canton memories include participating in events with students and organizing trips abroad. She enjoys interacting with the college's diverse student population and holding discussions on U.S. history and its relevance to current events. She is most proud of contributing to the college's improvement and creating upper-level courses, including African American History and U.S. Immigration History, as well as a history minor. Petkovsek is also the United University Professions union president at SUNY Canton.
• Minhua Wang teaches Cybersecurity in the School of Health, Science and Criminal Justice. He serves as the program coordinator and cybersecurity minor coordinator and has played a pivotal role in shaping the institution's cybersecurity curriculum. Professor Wang has introduced and taught a wide array of courses over the years. His contributions, ranging from foundational subjects to specialized topics, have been instrumental in preparing the next generation of cybersecurity professionals. His dedication to the field and commitment to academic excellence have been noted as a commendable addition to the college.
