SUNY Canton Recognizes Alex D. Sterling of Champlain at Commencement

Alex D. Sterling, a mechanical engineering technology major from Champlain, received the Outstanding Graduate Award at the bachelor's degree level at SUNY Canton's 109th Commencement Ceremony held Saturday, May 13.

Sterling is the President of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter at SUNY Canton. The student-run club recently earned second place at the ASCE regional steel bridge competition. The bridge, and the team of students who design and assemble it, are a tremendous point of pride at SUNY Canton.

He has consistently earned President's List honors for his academic achievement and received a Leaders of Tomorrow award from the Student Affairs Division. He's a member of the Tau Alpha Phi Engineering Honor Society, the Engineering Club and the Auto Club.

"Alex has the exceptional ability to always come up with a solution or a way to work around a problem to meet an end goal," said Jessica M. Fischer, one of Sterling's peers. "He is a role model to other students."

Sterling completed an internship with Plattco Corporation in Plattsburgh, and he will continue his career with the company after graduation.
