SUNY Canton Announces 2019 Hall of Fame Inductees

Canton, NY (05/23/2019) — SUNY Canton has selected seven individuals to be added to the illustrious college-wide Hall of Fame.

"With each Hall of Fame induction, we are reminded of the impressive accomplishments of SUNY Canton alumni and friends," said Vice President for Advancement Anne M. Sibley. "This year we will celebrate alumni who have built substantial businesses, professors who helped start the college's first four-year program, and an engineer who worked on all of the Apollo space missions."

The college will honor its 2019 inductees during a dinner celebration to be held at 5 p.m. Friday, June 7, in the Roos House Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center. The event is part of the college's annual Alumni Weekend celebration and will be open to the public, but preregistration is required. The 2019 Hall of Fame inductees are:

• Edward W. Bedell is a 1969 graduate and the president and CEO of COP Construction based in Salt Lake City, Utah. COP is a general contracting company that specializes in bridges, dams and other concrete structures. Bedell serves on the Civil Engineering Technology program's curriculum advisory board and sponsors SUNY Canton interns at COP.
• Francis A. "Ike" Cook was a 1993 graduate and cofounded the Watertown-based Blue Line Engineering in 2015 with his close friend and 1996 alumnus Jeffrey J. Tubolino. He served on the Canton College Foundation Board of Directors and was a lifelong friend of the college. Cook passed away in Sept. 2018.
• Janet E. Felosky is a 1970 graduate and the president and CEO of Monroe Tractor in central and western New York. She became CEO of the 11-outlet family-run agriculture and construction equipment company in 2013. Monroe Tractor was recently named one of the "Top Workplaces" among small businesses.
• Professor Emeritus David V. Guccione and his colleague, Distinguished Professor Emeritus Theodore E. Marlowe, played a key role in establishing a strong Criminal Justice presence at SUNY Canton. The two professors started the David Sullivan St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement Academy in 1996 and launched the college's first four-year degree, Criminal Investigation, in 1997. David has continued to teach during his retirement and volunteers with many local organizations.
• Camille Howland Mariani was a 1976 graduate who established her career as a journalist and lifelong writer. Mariani was the editor of Canton's St. Lawrence Plaindealer prior to serving as assistant to the president for public affairs at SUNY Canton. She also wrote the history of the college titled "70 Years of Change." After she retired, she wrote suspense novels and published 11 books before her passing in 2017.
• Distinguished Professor Emeritus Theodore E. Marlowe helped establish SUNY Canton as a leader in the Criminal Justice field. As noted, Marlow and Guccione launched the David Sullivan St. Lawrence County Law Enforcement Academy in 1996 and helped create the college's first four-year degree, Criminal Investigation, in 1997. After retiring, he established the Criminal Justice Alumni Award to assist students with internship expenses.
• Robert M. Mucica is a 1956 graduate who worked on all of the Apollo space missions. After graduating, he went to work for Rocketdyne, a division of North American Aviation, later acquired by Rockwell International and finally by Boeing. He retired as the company's manager of power systems. He's been a strong supporter of the Canton College Foundation.

In addition to inducting the newest members of the Hall of Fame, the college will also celebrate its newest Distinguished Alumni award recipients, Elizabeth B. and Walter J. Haig, who are graduates of the classes of 1988 and 1989, respectively. The couple credit their successful careers to the start they got at SUNY Canton. Elizabeth is a registered nurse who works as a manager with Eddy Visiting Nurse and Rehab Association. Walter is Vice President of Bentley Systems. They have been strong organizers as alumni, maintaining connections among classmates and their fraternity and sorority fellows. Elizabeth is on the Board of Directors of Hannah's Hope Fund, a charity in Rexford, and Walter serves on the Board of Directors of the Canton College Foundation. They established a scholarship endowment at SUNY Canton to assist students with financial need.
