SUNY Canton to Host Second Annual Luminary Vigil in Canton

Canton, NY (11/02/2018) — SUNY Canton's Student Alumni Association is partnering with North Country residents to host the second annual Luminary Vigil in Canton's Village Park to honor and celebrate the lives of veterans, alumni, faculty, friends and community members who have passed.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, at the corner of Main and Park streets. The rain location will be in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church located at 17 Park Street.

"This is a great way for the community and the campus to come together and memorialize those we have lost," said SUNY Canton Vice President for Advancement Anne M. Sibley. "We had more than 60 luminaries during our first event, and we hope to have many more this year."

She added that the Canton College Foundation will also dedicate a lantern to each victim of the recent Pittsburgh synagogue shooting.

The event is free and open to the public; however, donations are gratefully accepted and will be used to offset application fees for military veterans who apply to SUNY Canton. Donations of non-perishable food items are also appreciated and will be given to the college's food pantry.

To submit a loved one's name to be written on a lantern, send an email to Jordan Walker, SUNY Canton assistant director of individual giving, at walkerj@canton.edu.
