Spots Still Available for SUNY Canton Summer Day Camps
Canton, NY (06/18/2025) — There are several SUNY Canton summer day camps for a range of grade levels and areas of interest that still have available spots remaining.
Each camp runs for a one-week period (Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.). All campers must bring a water bottle, nut-free lunch and snack each day; however, the college is offering a fee-based daily bagged lunch, drink and snack that can be purchased during the registration process.
Cost is $250 per week with discounts available for multiple camps and/or multiple campers. Registration information at https://www.canton.edu/wcip/summer/.
Spots are available in the following day camps for 1st to 5th graders:
Coding/Technology, July 14-18
Campers will learn about coding through fun, hands-on visual programming languages like Blockly and Scratch, practice programming languages activities culminating in using program languages to control devices, including drones.
Music Theater, July 21-25
Campers will participate in a musical and make their costumes throughout the week. On the last day of camp in the afternoon, parents, family members and the community will be invited to campus to watch the performance in the Kingston Theater.
Art, Aug. 4-8
Campers will learn about and practice with various mediums including watercolor, oil, pastels, decalage, inking and drawing throughout the week. Parents, family members and the community will be invited to campus for an art installation held in Payson Hall showcasing the projects created throughout the week.

Drones, July 14-18
Campers will explore the world on unmanned flight by earning their AMA TRUST certificates and dive into the science of flight, learning essential concepts used by real drone pilots. Using CoDrones, students will practice hands-on piloting, explore coding for autonomous flight, and learn how drone sensors are used in real-world missions. From takeoff to landing, campers will build the skills needed for today's drone technology and tomorrow's drone careers. To support their learning, students will also get an intro to soldering basics and take apart Chromebooks to explore the internal components that power modern technology.
Coding/Technology, July 21-25
Campers will practice with text-based programming languages, build and configure a single board computer, install an operating system on a Raspberry Pi, and use the Raspberry Pi and Python to control a drone.
Video Game Concept Art, July 28 - Aug. 1
Campers are going to design immersive worlds and characters that enhance the work of environment and character artists, learn techniques for creating believable environments, and develop skills in character proportions and costume design.
First Responders, Aug. 11-15
Campers will experience hands-on fire service training including gear demos, hose handling and operating real equipment with guidance from local firefighters. They will also participate in an EMS day to learn CPR, splinting and how to respond in emergency scenarios with actual EMS providers. Fingerprinting and K-9 demonstrations introduce campers to policing and investigation work, and emergency management and dispatch training lets students role-play 911 calls, explore communications equipment and learn about coordination. The camp will culminate in a first responder expo with live demonstrations open to the community.
