SUNY Canton Revises Commencement Plans, Combines May 15 Ceremonies
Canton, NY (04/23/2021) — SUNY Canton will now be holding one student-only commencement ceremony at 10:30 a.m. May 15 in the Roos House Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center.
Due to current New York State regulations on capacity, guests will not be allowed to attend in person. The ceremony will be live streamed for families to watch via the SUNY Canton website.
The college had previously scheduled three individual ceremonies coinciding with its three academic schools. A recent announcement was made to students outlining the college's revised plan to combine the three ceremonies into one.
"Commencement is a milestone that we look forward to celebrating with you from the first moment you turn down Cornell Drive," said Amber L. Baines, the college's special events coordinator. "The COVID-19 pandemic has required us to adjust our commencement logistics several times throughout this year in order to comply with state and other guidelines. Throughout this time, we remain committed to honoring your achievements."
A separate ceremony for the class of 2020 is still planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, also in the Roos House. Again, the event is exclusively for graduates only but will be live streamed for others to watch. The college was forced to postpone its 2020 ceremony due to COVID-19.
Virtual ceremonies will also be held for both classes.
