SUNY Canton to Host Electric Vehicle Safety Training for Mechanics

Canton, NY (05/07/2024) — SUNY Canton's Center for Workforce, Community & Industry Partnerships (WCIP) is offering three, two-day electric vehicle (EV) safety training courses for mechanics in July.

The course is designed to introduce EV technology, systems, and safety to those involved in vehicle maintenance, service, and repair. Participants will be able to describe EV technology to customers, employees, and supervisors.

There will be an emphasis on safety, as well as facility preparation, required tooling, personal protective equipment, and emergency response. The goal is preparing participants for implementing service, repair, and diagnosis in the workplace.

The training concludes with a 20-question exam that results in a certificate of completion. The ASE EV certification exam will be scheduled the day after the training concludes and will be offered on campus for $45. This additional certification is optional and not required to complete the EV maintenance training.

Total cost for the training, which includes one set of sized EV electrical safety gloves (a $200 value), is $550. If an organization is sponsoring more than one participant, there is a reduced tuition fee for one attendee ($450).
