SUNY Canton to Host Low Voltage-Qualified Training and OSHA 10 Construction Course

Canton, NY (08/14/2024) — SUNY Canton's Center for Workforce, Community and Industry Partnerships and the Canino School of Engineering Technology will host two workforce safety training opportunities open to professionals and students this fall.

An 8-hour in-person low voltage-qualified training and test will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30. This training is designed for electrical and safety professionals who work with systems up to 600 volts. The course includes a comprehensive review of recommended safe behaviors and risk reduction strategies, as well as the latest guidelines from the National Fire Protection Association and OSHA. An OSHA 10-hour construction course will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, Wednesday, Sept. 25, Wednesday, Oct. 2 and Monday, Oct. 7. This course is designed for entry-level workers in construction, demolition, building development and other construction areas. Attendees who complete the training will receive an official OSHA 10 DOL card. It will be taught by SUNY Canton alumnus Patrick O'Brien, a graduate of the Emergency Management program. He is a 25-year fire service veteran and current chief of the Massena Volunteer Fire Department. The cost is $60 per person for the public and $30 per person for SUNY Canton students.
