SUNY Canton Veterinary Science Technology Program Partners with St. Lawrence County District Attorney's Office to Care for Abused and Neglected Pets
Canton, NY (02/24/2025) — The SUNY Canton Veterinary Science Technology Program is caring for and administering medical treatment to several dogs that were taken into custody by St. Lawrence County law enforcement as a result of an animal cruelty case.
The project is a partnership between the college and the St. Lawrence County District Attorney's Office. Five dogs are currently in the care of Veterinary Science Technology Program faculty and students, and three are currently up for adoption.
"Students are in charge of the daily feeding, walking and any medication administration for the dogs, which are housed in our kennel facility in the Newell Veterinary Science Technology Center building," said Veterinary Science Technology Program Director Dr. Wendy Kuceyeski. "They will also assist in anesthetic monitoring during spay and neuter procedures that are done by our faculty."
Kuceyeski noted there are two Great Pyrenees mixed breeds up for adoption, as well as one Great Pyrenees/Pit Bull crossbreed.
"We are proud to assist the District Attorney's Office and the community in caring for these animals until they are able to find loving homes," Kuceyeski added.
The Veterinary Science Technology program has traditionally partnered with several area animal shelters to provide spaying and neutering services and vaccinations for approximately 100 dogs and cats a year.
"I want to thank SUNY Canton and the Veterinary Science Technology Program for providing services imperative to ensuring the health and welfare of these rescued animals," said St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua.
