SUNY Canton College Council Welcomes Seamus O'Brien

Canton, NY (09/09/2026) — The SUNY Canton College Council recently welcomed banking professional Seamus O'Brien of Canton as its newest board member.

O'Brien received his appointment letter from New York State Gov. Kathy Hochul earlier this summer, and his term will expire on June 30, 2032.

"Seamus brings a valuable perspective to the SUNY Canton College Council, and we are pleased to welcome him to this important leadership role," said incoming SUNY Canton College Council Chair Kathleen Dodge. "New members strengthen the Council by contributing new ideas and insights that help guide the college's continued growth and success."

Dodge was appointed chairperson of the voluntary council at the same time O'Brien was selected for his position.

Originally from Mamaroneck, O'Brien attended college locally and noted that he was fond of the closeness and culture that students enjoy in the North Country.

"What excites me the most about my appointment to the College Council is becoming more involved in SUNY Canton's campus," he said. "I also recognize the important role that SUNY Canton and other schools in the area play in supporting our communities."

O'Brien earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from SUNY Potsdam in 2021. He works as an associate vice president and controller for North Country Savings Bank, the latest position in his evolving five-year professional career with the organization.

"I love what Canton has done to offer programs for adult learners in the area and their efforts to increase enrollment by adapting to a changing educational landscape," he said. "I can't wait to play a part in this positive movement and to support the success of the campus and community."

The SUNY Canton College Council is a volunteer board that provides oversight and guidance to the college. Council members serve as advocates for the institution, advise campus leadership on strategic initiatives, and help strengthen connections among the extended college community.
